Okay, so this weekend a huge group of students went to Serbia, to the cities of Novi Sad and Belgrade.  I took many pictures for both cities so I will be posting them on separate posts on separate days.  The trip was quite a blast as I got to see many cool historical aspects of Serbia and learn some of their history and the roles that the Serbian nation and people played in broader historical events in south eastern Europe.  There were some interesting, and yes I am implying an negative meaning, aspects of the trip which mainly stemmed from the travel.  We took a train from Debrecen to Budapest to meet with the large group which was a 3.5ish hour ride, and then took a warm and crowded bus with little legroom for 7 hours to Novi Sad.  On the way back we were stopped at the Hungarian border (Serbia is not part of the EU) and we all had to grab all of our belongings and the bus was to be searched, as were our bags.  After a long wait and being cold they simply said 'ok, no control today, you may go back to the bus, thank you' without doing anything.  Aside from my complaining about the travel, the trip was awesome and I went places I would most likely not have gone to on my own, enjoy the pics.  Also I apologize for some of the pictures on being the correct orientation, I have saved and re-saved them but they still post sideways.

The Cathedral in the main square

The hostel the Debrecen students stayed in, right on the main square

The Austrian Fortress of Novi Sad that the city grew from

The Danube

The old city of Novi Sad

Part of the fortress, it is far to vast to capture in a photo from the ground, and its iconic clock tower

The iconic clock tower of Novi Sad, the minute hand is actually the small one and the big hand is the hours, weird right?!

The entrance to the initial ramparts

This is a view of the Cathedral from the fortress, probably about 3.6 km (2.2 miles) away

Going through the tunnel system under the fortress 16km (10 miles) of tunnels!

The bishop's palace for the orthodox church

A great big Orthodox Church
